Baby Knit Booties

Making baby knit booties is fun and simple.

First cut out two tops, two cuff ribbing (can be from interlock fabric) and four of bootie sole.  Two of the sole fabric can be cut from the sole fabric.

Remove the pattern.  Fold the bootie cuff in half, right sides together, and pin.  Be sure the stretch is from side to side.  Also fold the bootie top right sides together and pin.

All seam allowances are 1/4".  Use the edge of your presser foot.  Backstitch at the beginning and end of all seams.  Sew the bootie top and the bootie cuff pieces.

Press seams open to eliminate bulk.

For the bootie cuff, because the tube is so small, flip one seam allowance over and press.

Then flip the other seam allowance over and press.

Turn the cuff right side out, matching top raw edges together and match the seamline.  Pin at the seamline and also half way around the cuff.

Fold the bootie top in half and mark the half way point with a pin.

Insert the bootie cuff into the bootie top opening, matching the pins and the back seam.  Pin together.

This part is tricky because the circle is so small.  Stretch the opening a little and stitch around the circle.  Putting the needle in the down position helps a lot.

Put bootie soles wrong sides together.  Mark the front and the back with pins.  Mark the front of the bootie top.

Pin the bootie top to the sole, matching center back seam and front pin marks so that the pieces are centered.  Finish pinning securely all around.

Stitch all around the edge, taking out the pins as you go.

 Clip all thread tails.

Turn it right side out and you have an adorable baby bootie!  Great Job!
